DNW, LTD. (tentative name ANBANG, LTD.) was founded in 1972 as Daewon Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., a leading kitchen appliance company.
Kang Gyu-seok, Chairman of DNW, LTD. (tentative name ANBANG, LTD.) developed Korea's first electric rice cooker and founded Daewon Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. in 1972, and was very successful in commercializing electric rice cookers. The emergence of electric rice cookers during this period created a new paradigm called “kitchen culture innovation” in Korean history.
Before the launch of the Daewon electric rice cooker in the 1970s, cooking culture using briquette fires, kerosene stoves, and firewood dominated the public. However, the introduction of the Daewon electric rice cooker was a groundbreaking turning point in the shift from this cooking culture to a convenient kitchen culture using electricity. Due to the success of the Daewon electric rice cooker, products such as the Daewon electric frying pan, Daewon millstone mixer, Daewon electric fan, and Daewon home stove (oil stove without smoke smell) have sold enormously. In this way, Daewon Electric took a leading role in changing the kitchen culture to electric products.
Here is an anecdote from that time. At the time of the launch of the Daewon electric rice cooker, the product was sold through monthly installments. Monthly installment sales are a form in which a salesperson carries products to be sold and visits places where customers are located to sell and collect money. A rice cooker salesperson sold a product to a merchant in a market. However, the salesperson, who was not confident in the rice cooker's performance at the time, received a call from the merchant a few months later that the product had broken down, and had no choice but to visit the merchant again. The merchant greeted the salesperson very warmly and asked if he could fix the product as it was broken. This salesperson was embarrassed when he saw the defective product. The reason is that this consumer used a briquette fire and to cook rice as usual, he added water to the rice and used the product while placing the electric rice cooker on the briquette fire like a regular pot, so the rice cooker burned out and brokedown. This can be said to be an example of a culture shock in which the kitchen culture changes from the primary heat source to electricity..
At the time, the Daewon electric rice cooker was a memorable product that everyone had used at least once in that era, as it appeared as a kitchen accessory in TvN's Reply 1988, which was recently popular in Korea.
DNW, LTD. (tentative name ANBANG, LTD.) was founded in 1999 by Chairman Kang Gyu-seok and has inherited the founding spirit of Daewon Electric. The start of ANBANG Electric Grill was based on an idea that no one had thought of: the cause of smoke & odor during cooking. To solve this problem, after going through a difficult process of research and development and commercializing it, a groundbreaking electric grill that eliminates smoke odor was launched in 2003. This product worked well to eliminate smoke odor. However, it was not suitable for consumer needs and suffered a bitter defeat in the market. The efforts and costs invested so far were in vain, but the next product was developed to improve the shortcomings of the first product. So the first product that was born was the ANBANG grill DNW-101 series (August 2007). As sales pick up in 2017, the story of Anbang Grill continues.
